Quick Update: H-Alt Translation Complete

So, the biggest hurdle is now out of the way. All h-alt scenes are now translated, along with all known non-ero changes through the end of Unlimited Blade Works.

Sakura's route still needs to be checked for non-ero changes and sent to TakaJun for translation, but that won't be hard - just pretty boring going through the scripts one by one.

So how long until we get something releasable? ...I can't say, actually. After I'm done editing these translations, I'll hand them off to Waku Waku so he can rescript them into something compatible with the PC version. It's likely that not even WW would be able to provide a good estimate at this point.

H-Alternate Patch Status

Hey, Hyarion here. Odds are you don't know me - essentially, I'm the guy who's coordinating the h-alt side of the patch (which includes both the completely rewritten scenes as well as the miscellaneous changes throughout, by the way.) Since I see the question of when it'll be released pop up quite a bit, I figured I'd archive the current status of the project here for the people who'd really rather not wade through twenty pages of a forum thread. Here's how the process is working so far:

I've pulled the original scripts off of the PS2 disk, so that's what we're working off of. They're stored in pretty much the same format as the PC scripts - there's some commands and such that don't exist in the PC version, though, so that's where Waku Waku has to step in and work his magic. As for the text itself, I'm going over the original Japanese and RN scripts and cataloging the differences, then sending them off to the translator - more on that in a sec - and inserting them back into the English scripts. The h-alt scenes themselves will just get stripped of any script commands, translated, then sent to WW to be inserted into his modified RN scripts. I'll probably throw some editing in there as well, since I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. At the moment, I've completed the list of Fate differences. UBW should be a breeze - HF is the one that could take awhile.

So, about the translator - mirror moon's translator, TakaJun, has signed on to the project. Thing is, he now runs Yandere Translations (along with Arch), so we had to agree to be put on hold for awhile. This is the main thing holding the patch up - I don't expect him to be able to start translating the scripts until he's done with his current project, SWAN SONG. He did take care of my list of Fate differences, though, since it was only a few minutes worth of work. I might throw together a patch sometime to make sure I didn't miss anything, perhaps with UBW if Taka doesn't mind translating that list. Keep an eye on the Beast's Lair thread if you're interested in testing.

Let's see, what else - ah, right, we're currently talking to mirror moon about getting the patch added to their installer. While I haven't gotten an official confirmation of any sort (I've only talked to Message so far, unless you count Taka), things are looking pretty positive. The main hurdle was finding a CG extractor that would work with an installer - turns out none exist, and no one with enough knowledge of a PS2 disk's file structure really wants to extract images from some game they've never heard of. I ended up sitting down with the PS2 disk and a hex editor and deciding to do it myself - a month, who knows how many Google searches, and too many overcaffeinated all-nighters later, I had a working extractor. Actually, since I can pull just about anything off of there now, it may actually be possible to do a full install using just the PS2 disk - the CGs, character sprites, music, sound effects, menu graphics, etc. are all accounted for. Don't know if it's something I'll follow up on, but hey, it can't hurt to mention it.

Speaking of installers, I threw together an installer of my own a little while back. Odds are it'll get added to the next major release to make installing - and especially uninstalling, what with the whole galleryfix.xp3 deal - a bit easier. I know someone was concerned recently about registry edits affecting portability - for what it's worth, the only registry entries I've got it set to add only affect the uninstaller, nothing else.

That's about all I've got. To summarize - we're waiting for TakaJun to finish his current translation project before he can work on ours, and we don't have any sort of estimate on when that'll be. At any rate, thanks for your patience for sticking with this project for this long!

Update for 4.2 (Goes after the main patch) - Last Updated 01/29/10

Fixes the title menu for real this time. Also has some sfx changes, since some of the ones in the previous patch were wrong. Includes more saves. Not a big update, but the title menu thing is pretty important IMO.

Things that are not bugs:

It didn't add voices. It's not supposed to. You'll still have voices if you had them previously, but if you didn't you get them through mirror moon's installer not this patch.
Lack of music at the first All Clear title. It is not supposed to have music.
Text showing up without a frame. It happens sometimes, most notably during all of Last Episode.

If you are using a frame other than the default, it reverts to the default for 1 page after it returns. After that it'll go back to what you have set.

Every bug brought to my attention since 4.0 was released has been fixed, including the locale ~~and Last-Episode-at-start~~ problems. Unlike the last version, 4.1 includes novoice.xp3. There's also a new file called galleryfix.xp3, which fixes a problem with the gallery that you'll get should you choose to remove the patch. Make sure to read the section in the readme about it.

Trying out MegaShares as a host. They only allow you to download 250mb but that's enough for this. They say they have limited download speed, but I was getting between 1.6 and 2 Mbps testing the link.

Never mind, this doesn't fix the Last Episode problem because I forgot to include the file that fixes it.

Stick this in after the main patch. It should fix most of the crashing problems.

The ones it doesn't (such as the crash when starting the game) are caused by not having your system in Japanese locale. You can avoid it for now by changing your system locale to Japanese or using applocale.

Ok, here's a new fix. I think this should take care of everything up until now, even the locale problem. If you find something that isn't fixed please post it here. Assuming there isn't anything devastating, I'll put out a 4.1 on the 16th.

***IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ***

Lot's of changes. Almost all of the brand new CGs are in. I's only missing the ero replacements, one CG in Fate, and the Prologue CGs. Obviously that means the Prologue isn't included. I tried to get it in, but there were effects I'm not sure at all how to do, so I released without it for now.

New title pages. The first one replaces the all clear title from the regular PC version, the 2nd is triggered when you finish Last Episode.

CGs and BGM are now added to their galleries. Here's a image of the new CGs, minus alternate version like happy/sad faces and all of the different Shirou and Kotomine attacks.

I forgot to add saves before uploading it, so here they are. You'll probably have to rename them before using them. There aren't saves for everywehre with new CGs, just a few of the more important scenes. Includes Nine Bullet Revolver, All Evils of the World, Beauties of Nature, Fate - stay night (II), Poisonous snake, jack of all trades, and Spark Liner High. Different save for Nine Bullet Revolver, since the scene was redone from start to end rather than the middle.

For the time being, 4 is voice-only. There's some kind of problem in one of the files that makes the game crash without the files in the voice patch, but I have no idea what it is. I'll release a voiceless version when I do.

Sorry for the split archive, went over 200mb. If anyone knows a good host that does 200mb+, please speak up. Mirror will hopefully be up eventually. MegaUpload keeps saying the files are unavailable since last night, and Mediafire keeps failing part1.

There's a bug in the Assassin scenes where skipping will crash the game. I can but won't fix it (it's a byproduct of an effect), but it shouldn't be much of a problem since it's just a couple places. Please post any bugs you find.

Someone wanted me to write up exactly what this patch does, that will come later when I have more time. I only have, like, 20 minutes right now.

So it's been about 6 weeks since I said 4.0 would be done "soon". 1 or 2 things are taking much longer than expected, and the actual Realta Nua scripts have been extracted so I also want to go through and use them to improve the scenes I've already done. Anyway, I'm going to be way busy from the 7th to the 23rd, so hopefully I should be done around the first week of December. Sorry this is taking so long.

Help Wanted: Translator

wingzero doesn't think he'll be able to do much any time soon, so we're looking for new Chinese translator(s) who would be willing to work on the Realta Nua H-scene replacements. We have the text put together, so it just needs a translation. If you don't have time to do all of them, even one of the scenes is helpful.

Oh, Japanese translators would also be helpful, but we don't have the text in Japanese so it would require transcribing.

If you'd like to help, please post here or on the thread over at Beast's Lair.

This probably won't be in 4.0 regardless, for anyone wondering. However that should be done soon. Only a couple things left to do.

Fixed a couple more bugs, like the one in the previous post's comments and a different one that I noticed from XerBlade's YouTube upload that caused the second wave of clouds to not appear.

There were also a couple small changes to the recap, and then some corrections to spelling and grammar courtesy of wingzero.

Big thanks to nghtmrsrph for helping with one of the bugs.

I ran through every scene multiple times with both voiced and voiceless to make sure there weren't any more bugs, but if you happen to find any please post them here.

It seems a couple glitches popped up after I released 3.0. If you get a fuzzy CG flying across the screen at the end of Last Episode, or use a voiceless game and intend on reading through Nine Bullet Revolver ever again, download this new version.

I also replaced the kinda ugly pendulum with something more simple, but less headache inducing.

Pendulum & Missing CGs

Okay, so I'm pretty much done. There are just a couple problems.

Problem #1: That pendulum
I don't know what to do with that pendulum. I thought I had a command that would work, but try as I might I can't get it to do what I want it to. I'll try a little more, but if it still won't work I'm probably going to replace it with a static CG.

Problem #2: Missing CGs
A couple of CGs are missing from my rip. They're foreground things like these:
I have black masks for them, but not the CGs themselves. If anyone has, or would like to do, a full rip with something other than Westside CD68 (I know of at least 1 other rip tool for RN, but it doesn't seem to work on my computer), please check if they're in there.

I'm about half done with the next patch. I was trying to get it done by the end of April, but I probably won't. I have finals the first week of May, so it'll probably be done mid-May. Sorry for the wait, the recap was taking a lot longer than I thought it would.

I haven't had nearly as much time to work on this as I thought, so it's taking a while. Right now I have 'All evils of the world' pretty much done, and a bit of 'All the good in this life'. 'All the good' is being a pain in the ass, but I finish finals Thursday and should have some time.
